FIELD TESTING & REVIEW CRITERIA  -----  In My Personal Experiences With Customers, Co-Adventures, Workers And Students, In My Own Life Adventures, And In Work For Over 30 Years, Practically Is The Determining Factor Of Weather A Piece Of Equipment Will Be Used Or Forgotten.  Practically Is The Direct End-Result And Sum-Of Fundamental Factors, Which Include: Ease-Of-Use In Typical Applications, Reliability, Availability-To-Use, And Durability.  Each Of These Factors Break Down Into More Specific Details, Depending On The Item.  When I Evaluate And Review Products For Personal Use And When Providing Outfitting Consultation Information, These Factors Are Considered.  Below I Offer A Product Review And Insight Into A Commonly Sought After Technology, Private Wireless Two-Way Communications.

UNDERSTOOD DEFINTIONS  -----  First, We Must Have A Common Understanding Of Terms.  Today, Many Products Come With Poorly Written Instructions And Documentation.  I Find This To Be One Of The Factors Which Causes The Typical Person Not To Read The Instructions.  When I First Read The Owner's Manual Of The Model TSX300 Extreme Radio Service Two-Way Radio By TriSquare, I Quickly Became Confused With The Way The Terminology Was Used.  The Following Common Terms Should Be Understood When Reading Information About These Two-Way Radios.

Private Communications  ----- The Term "Private Communications" Sometimes Refers To The Fact That EXRS Radios Are Not Reliant On A Commercial-Service-Provider To Work; Like Cell Phones, Which Requires A Cell Tower Near By To Replay Each And Every Transmission.  Without This Cell-Phone Service Relay Tower Near By The Sender And Receiver, Cell Phones Cannot Work.  eXRS Transmissions Originates From Each User's Radio And Transmits Directly To Other eXRS Radios Synchronized With The Sender's Radio, And Without Radio Wave Reception Range.  You Should Also Note, Cell Phones Can Only Communicate With One Other User At A Time, Unless Other Means Are Arranged Ahead of Time For A Special Feature, Which May Or May Not Be Available With A Particular Cell-Phone Service Provider.

Interference  ----- The Term "Interference" Is Used Within The Owner's Manual And Advertising To Refer To Other User's Of eXRS Radios Interfering With Other User's Transmissions.  For Instance, Our Family Has Enjoyed Going To The Famous EAA International Fly-In In Oshkosh Wisconsin Every Year, And Have Used Handheld CB Radios In The past To Keep In Touch.  Ever Since FRS Radios Came Into Existence, We Have Tested Various Models At The EAA.  These Proved To Work Reasonably Ok, However, Interference From Other Users Using The Channels Is Always A Major Problem.  In A Relatively Small Space, On The West Side Of The Airport, Is Where The Displays Are Located And Thousands Of Flying Machines To See.  It Always Seemed, Every Channel Was Being Used.  When A Conversation Is Started, It Can Quickly Be Interfered By A User Between The Person Transmitting And The Person Receiving.  The Person Receiving Does Not Hear The Communications From The Sender, But Instead Hears The Interfering User.  eXRS Radios Practically And Effetely Eliminates This Typical Problem.

First Impressions  -----  Let The Testing Begin.  On Friday, August 27, 2011, I Received A New Pair Of TriSquare TSX300R Camouflage eXRS Two-Way Wireless Radios For The Purpose Of Field-Testing And Evaluation For Approval In The Casanova Collection.  I Assumed The Camo Model Was Sent To Me, Because Of The New Hunting-Gear Selling-Season Has Started In North America At This Time.  My Initial Thoughts Were, Great Looking Camouflage Housing For Hunters, Animal Watchers And For People Who Work Near Animals In The Wild.  I Would Recommend The Camo Models To Hunters And Animal-Observers Who Need The Extra Cover Of Blending Into A Surrounding Vegetation Environment.  I Do Not Recommend The Camo For Hikers, And Other Outdoor Applications, Since, If Dropped, The Radio Would Become Difficult To Locate-Fast, If At All --- Yes The Camo Is That Good.

The Units Are Very Lightweight, Compact And Are Shaped With A Comfortable-To-Hold Curved Midsection In The Body.  This Shape Is Proving Advantageous To Holding For Listening And Speaking Using My Left Hand; Positioning The Unit And Antennas As Per The Instructions.  It Is Very Important With Any Wireless Device, To Keep The Antenna High And Away From The Body.  A Free Belt Clip Is Included; However This Clip Is Very Light-Duty And Appears To Not Be Suitable For Reliable Service (Look Thin And Easy To Break).  A 1-Piece Rubber-Like Cover Fits Over The External Headset Jack, And Is Retained In The Body Of The Unit. The Units Body Feels And Appears Relatively Strong In The Hand.  I Like The Built-In Battery-Charger Cradle With Separate Power Supply Functionality.  This Enables The System With A Higher Level Of Availability To Use The Backup Rechargeable Batteries.  If The Power Adapter Fails, It Is Much easier To Locate Or Build A Power Adapter.  This Functionality Enables Considering Using Solar Panels, Hand Crank Generators, Batteries, And Other Voltage Resources As Power For The Charger.  I Was Surprised And Disappointed The Units Do Not Come With An Automatic Sensing 50/60 Hz/110/240 International Power Adapter.  This Will Be A Concern For Global Adventures; Make Sure To Find A Suitable Power Adapter.

The Deluxe Set We Provide Also Includes Two Free Deluxe Headsets.  This Headset Is Feather-Light And Features A Soft Formable Wrap-Around Ear-Holding Bar.  The Headset Enables A User To Place Its Small Ear-Bud-Speaker Over The Ear Canal, And Position The Small Microphone Next To The Cheek Out Of The Way.

Hunter's Silent Communications  ----- The Text Messaging Feature May Appeal To Some Hunters Who Hunt With Friends Or in Groups.  This Unique Feature Is Not Available On FRS Or GMRS Radios.  This Text Messaging Feature Is Entirely Independent Of Ever Needing Any Service Provider!  The Technology Is Built Into Each Deluxe Model, Enabling Text Messaging To As Many Users As In Your Private Group On Your Selected Private Channel.  The Built-In Speaker And Keypad Tones Can Be Shut Off For Total Silent Running.

First Field Test - Basement To Forest -----  I Needed To Test These Radios Out Quickly As Far As Ease-Of-Use Functionality And Clarity-Of-Voice Were Concerned For A Possible Inclusion In A Deep Wilderness Equipment Field Testing Adventure.  My Assistance And Customer, Neal, And Myself, Decided We Should Test The Units In A Very Difficult Radio Communications Environment.  And, We Should Test The Radios Using The Included Battery Pack, Since Typical Users First Grab The Charger And Use The Rechargeable Backup Batteries.  Neal Took His Unit Into The Basement Of A 1-Level Concrete Block Structure, As I Walked Away From This Structure Into A Nearby Young Wisconsin Forest.  This Forest Is Heavily Populated With Wood Shrubs, Hardwood Crab Apple Tress And Various Large-And-Small-Leaf Trees.  We Are Working On Taking Measurements For The Purpose of Future Field Testing In The Forest.  I Was Able To Hear His Communications Intelligibly Until I Got To The Edge Of Our Test Forest, Where The Battery Pack Had Become Weaken Enough To Cause The Range To Shorten To Unusable.

October 1st 2011, Building Maintenance -----  Today A Light Switch Needed To Be Replaced In A Large 2-Level Home.  The Radios Were Used With Great Success Communicating Between The Second Floor, Half-Way Across The Home's Length, And Into The Far Corner Of The Basement, Where The Circuit Breaker Box Is Located.  The Basement Is Filled With Storage Boxes of Stuff.  The Radios Were Able To Synchronize And Provide Intelligible Communications With Ease of Use - Simply Turned Them On, Hand One To A Person Who Has Never Used These Radios And She Was Able To Naturally Understand And Use The Unit Without A Problem.

Initial Radio Setup -----  Understanding The Functions And Intended Purpose Of Each, Will Provide For A More Accurate Assessment Of The Technology.  Understanding Functionality Enables The User To Make Informed Decisions regarding The Use Of The Equipment.  I Will Begin Reviewing The Instructions Presented In The Owner's Manual And Present Highlighted Points Of Interest In Further Additions To This Field Testing Review.
