'ALL TOPO MAPS: GPS' Provides A Collection Of Integrated Tools, For Serious Work With NMEA Data, GPS Data, And The Various Formatted-Data Files Created By Brand-Named GPS Devices.

This Collection Of Tools Enables Direct Exchange Of GPS-System-Data Between The PC-Computer And A Connected GPS Device Equipped With A Data Port. The 3 Typical GPS-Formatted-Data File Types: 'Waypoints', 'Route-Points' And 'Track-Points'; Can Be Transferred Directly Between A GPS-Device And A PC-Computer's Digital Storage Media; To The 'ALL TOPO MAPS:' Application Running On The PC-Computer; And/Or Directly To An Active USGS Map Currently Open In 'ALL TOPO MAPS:'.

This Utility Application Also Provides The Means To Save And Load Point-And-Click On-Map Plotted Waypoints And Route Points Through A Direct Connection To A GPS Receiver System.

The 'GPS Tool' Provides A Real-Time NMEA Link Between The Corresponding USGS Map, Or Directly Logged Into A NMEA File On Any PC-Computer Storage Media, And A Working GPS Receiver That Has A Data Port.

Real-Time Tracking Controller | 'Trkr'

Real time tracking, automatically plots and centers a GPS's current position on the map. The map moves in real time, within the application's window. A Resource For Laptop Applications.

The 'Real-Time Tracking Controller' ('ATMGPS Trkr' option in the application) is used to automatically log GPS data while moving, and create GPS 'waypoint' files in real-time as GPS data is received from a connected operating GPS receiver.

Trkr will log 'track points' to the current file as the GPS-receiver computes movement. If the GPS-receiver stops
moving, logging will stop until the GPS-Receiver computes movement again.

'Track points' are stored with sequential numbered names with a segment number.

The segment number can be incremented manually as a trail or road segment is completed.

Trkr provides waypoint feature type names. The standard list of waypoint types included:

Trail Head, Descend, Turn Right, Plateau, Turn Left, Valley, Water, Enter Forest, Gate, Leave Forest, Fence, Camp, Road, Wilderness Bdy, Ascend, Trail End
User Waypoint Feature Types Can Be Added And Are Saved To The Drop-Down Menu

Trkr Tools

	'New File' Button. Trkr will create a new file as necessary or a new file can be created on demand. The filename will always be built from the current date and time in the format YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.hwp. The file is stored in the same location as the currently active map's annotation file.
	'AutoTrack' Button. Automatically center the map to the coordinates sent by a connected GPS receiver, every time the GPS sends data; real-time
	'Center Map To Current Received GPS Data Position From A Connected GPS Receiver'. This Function Happens Once, And Does Not Continue To Center The Map Each Time The GPS Data Changes
	Press the ?+? button to increment the segment number on track-points. Track-points are named with the segment number + ?T? + an incremental track point number
	Click this button to turn on tracking. The red circle cursor on the map will change to green when tracking is active
	Click this button to force a track point to be added immediately to the track log
	Select a waypoint description (or type in a new one) then press the ?+? to add a waypoint at the current GPS position

GPS Setup

A Full Set of Tools Are provided To Enable Interfacing To Any NMEA GPS-Device.

1St Generation GPS-Devices Came With Data Formats Developed Independently By Each Brand, Without Cooperation Between The Different Device Developers. The Developers Of ALL TOPO MAPS: Has Taken Apart The Data Formats of The More Widely-Sold Branded GPS Devices And Have Come Up With Format Conversion Routines Available As A Point-And-Click Setup Option.

Most Of The GPS Devices Need To Use The Designated Brand-Data-Format To Transfer Waypoint, Route Point and Track Points.

NMEA data can only be accessed by setting the GPS device to NMEA output. We offer technical support to our customers who have purchased a 'ALL TOPO MAPS:' Set From Us. For others We Offer The Service At A Reasonable Service Fee To Cover The High Cost Of Maintaining The Business And No-Nonsense Expertise.

NMEA & Tracking Setup

When a GPS receiver has position lock, the application will automatically center the correct map on-screen and place the configurable 'Track' annotation (icon indicator) at the current location on the map.

Change the ?Default Annotation Style? configured for the 'Track' on the All Topo application menu ?Options: System Options...: System (tab): Default Annotation Styles: Track?.

NMEA Sentence Selection for Real Time Tracking

Check at least one NMEA sentence type to use for real time tracking.

Typically the 'GPGGA' selection is sufficient, however if it does not work, try checking all the boxes.

Require Checksum on NMEA Sentences

Check this box to enable error detection on the serial link.

Position Update Interval

Choose an appropriate interval to update the current position in 'All Topo Maps' applcation.

Since the map and all annotations must be redrawn with each update, a longer interval may be appropriate for slower computers.
